JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. (KCTV) - Metro area deputies are ramping up traffic enforcement, with a focus on drivers who blow past stopped school buses.

The Jackson County, Missouri, Sheriff’s Office says that during the week of Oct. 20, extra deputies will be on the road to ensure drivers follow the rules of the road.

Specifically, the Sheriff’s Office indicated it would focus on stopped school bus enforcement. It is illegal for drivers to pass a school bus while the stop-arm is extended and red lights are flashing.

Despite the fact that buses remain the safest mode of transportation for students, tragedies still occur. Especially when drivers fail to follow the law.
