If you want to see one of the most bright, beautiful meteor showers of the year, you have two nights to see a cosmic light show.
The Orionid meteor shower will peak this week, with shooting stars blazing across the sky at 148,000 mph. They'll leave glowing trails and some fireballs will be visible for a few minutes.
Here's what we know about when, where in Mississippi you'll have the best chance to see the most shooting stars and what the peak nights are for active meteor showers.
When is the Orionid meteor shower?
According to the American Meteor Society, the Orionids will be visible from Oct. 2, through about Nov. 7. This celestial show is tied to the dust cloud left by Halley's Comet. (We won't see the famous fireball again until 2061.)
