JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. — Drivers traveling on I-64 east should expect an overnight closure this week as crews install a new overhead sign, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
As early as Tuesday, Oct. 21, all lanes of I-64 east will be closed between Eltham Road (exit 220) in New Kent County and Old Stage Road (exit 227) in James City County. The closure is expected to last up to four hours, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. A backup date of Wednesday, Oct. 22, is scheduled in case of weather delays.
A signed detour will guide drivers from Eltham Road onto New Kent Highway and Old Stage Road before rejoining I-64 east.
VDOT reminds motorists that all work is weather- and schedule-dependent. You can also see real-time updates at 511.vdot.virginia.gov .
