WATERBURY, Conn. — A man is in critical condition after falling from scaffolding at a Waterbury church Monday morning, according to the city's police department.
Police originally reported the man had died from injuries but said in a correction Monday evening that he remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment.
The incident happened at Our Lady of Lebanon Church, in the area of Hamilton Avenue, at 7:16 a.m.
City police responded to assist the Waterbury Fire Department and EMS. Investigators learned that the man, identified as Alair Rosa Deoliveira, 65, of Danbury, accidentally fell from 16 feet and suffered a head wound, according to police.
Deoliveira was taken to a local area hospital for medical treatment.
