KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

Local Head Start leaders are trying to find ways to keep their programs open before funding runs out in less than two weeks.

Head Start is a federally funded program that provides free, comprehensive early childhood education and support services for children up to age 5. It also provides children with mental health, disability, health and nutrition services. Advertisement

The Mid-America Regional Council helps run and distribute funds for the 17 Head Start sites on the Missouri side of the state line. These programs employ roughly 400 teachers and have more than 2,300 children in their care.
