BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With Halloween just around the corner, one local organization is using the spooky season as a chance to bring the community together, all while supporting those living with dementia.
Defying Dementia hosted a pumpkin painting session Monday morning at the SOKY Center, inviting both adults and children to decorate pumpkins in creative and colorful ways.
But beyond the paintbrushes and bright colors, the event had a deeper meaning.
“One of the things that we’ve noticed is within our community, there really aren’t a lot of opportunities for seniors to socialize,” said Jenny Jacobs, founder of Defying Dementia. “We’re here today just trying to create opportunities for people to have a connection with others, whether it be someone their own age or someone younger.”
