Why Mariners were called for interference out after Blue Jays throw off Josh Naylor's head

This is one of the weirdest plays you'll ever see.

Josh Naylor was on first base for the Seattle Mariners with one out in the top of the first.

A grounder to the left side went to Toronto Blue Jays ' infielder Ernie Clement, who stepped on second base for the first out of the sequence.

Then he wound up a throw to first, but it deflected off Naylor's head and bounded away, so there was no chance at a double play.

Initially, no second out was called on the field.

All six umpires joined together for a huddle to discuss it.

While they talked, replays on the Fox broadcast showed that not only had Naylor not gotten out of the way: He had jumped.
