An unexpected closure on the 12th Street Bridge, between Covington and Newport, could have a big impact on your morning commute.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says this closure is for emergency repairs. Officials say police notified them about a potential issue with a bridge joint.

Crews then closed the bridge Monday so they can use hydraulic jacks to temporarily lift it up. They will then install new bearings, which are important for support and flexibility when the temperature changes.

As a detour, most drivers can take the Licking River or the Roebling Bridge, but that won't be an option for heavier trucks that exceed
