The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Cambridgeshire due to forecasts of heavy rain. This warning will be in effect from 00:01 until 23:00 on Thursday, October 23. The alert encompasses the south and east of England, including all of Cambridgeshire, as well as neighbouring counties such as Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex.
Residents can expect challenging conditions, with the warning indicating potential "spray and flooding on roads leading to difficult driving conditions and increased chance of accidents, making journey times longer." Public transport may also experience delays, affecting travel times for commuters.
The warning highlights the risk of flooding for some homes and businesses. It states: "A complex area of low pressure over the mid-Atlantic early this week is expected to move towards the UK whilst deepening, but confidence in the details of its track and intensity as it crosses the UK remains fairly low."
Despite the uncertainties, there is a medium likelihood of significant rainfall. The forecast predicts that an extensive area of rain will move into southwestern Britain on Wednesday evening, spreading quickly northeast. By early Thursday morning, rainfall totals are expected to reach 20-30mm widely, with some areas potentially receiving 30-50mm.
There is also a small chance that certain locations, particularly in North Devon and Cornwall, could exceed these amounts. Additionally, conditions are expected to become windy, with a risk of gales, particularly along southern and eastern coasts, spreading more widely across southern Britain during Thursday daytime.
