On Nov. 1, the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) is inviting the public to join it for “an evening with Dr. Cornel West to learn, be inspired and support the fight against Islamophobia and racism in Canada.” Yet despite spending his career fighting for civil liberties in the United States, West has become a prominent peddler of anti-Israel hate.

West — a high-profile academic, media commentator and failed presidential candidate — is a self-described “non-Marxist socialist” who believes the U.S. is a “racist patriarchal” state that’s infused with white supremacy. Like many on the left, he has transposed his worldview — which boils every issue down to a struggle between oppressors and oppressed — onto the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
