A flight heading to Los Angeles International Airport was forced to make an emergency landing on the night of Monday, Oct. 20 after flight attendants knocked on the cockpit door following a communications failure.

SkyWest Flight 6469, operating as American Eagle, landed safely after returning to Eppley Airfield in Omaha, Nebraska around 7 p.m. local time Oct. 20, the Federal Aviation Administration said. The pilot was unable to contact the cabin crew and after hearing the knocking on the cockpit door, assumed someone was trying to break in and declared an emergency.

The flight made it 36 minutes into the journey before it was forced to return to the airport, according to FlightAware data. After landing, the crew determined there was a problem with the inter-phone system, according
