TIGARD Ore. (KPTV) - Pretzels contaminated with oven cleaner were mistakenly served to students during a sixth-grade lunch period at Fowler Middle School in Tigard on Monday, according to school officials.

A total of 37 pretzels were served before the contamination was discovered, according to officials. Staff quickly found the affected students and followed safety procedures, according to officials.

The Oregon Poison Control Center was contacted and they advised that the oven cleaner involved can cause a burning feeling or vomiting if ingested in significant amounts. Students who ate the pretzels were instructed to rinse their mouths with water, and eat bland food like a granola bar or bread, and monitor symptoms for 24 hours.
