PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced this month it will not have funding to distribute SNAP or EBT benefits in November because of the ongoing federal government shutdown.

The announcement affects more than 750,000 Oregonians who rely on these food assistance programs. One in six Oregonians receive SNAP benefits.

The Oregon Department of Human Services is urging people to use state and locally funded food banks as the federal money may not be distributed next month. Food assistance organizations say they are trying to keep up with increased demand.

Hannah Grover, a former SNAP recipient, said the potential loss of benefits will hurt a lot of families.
