MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - Despite saying he would step down from his seat Monday, Orleans County Senator Sam Douglass still has not formally resigned, according to the governor’s office.
Douglass last week said he would officially step down from office on Monday, less than a week after he was exposed for participating in a racist group chat with other young Republicans, leading to swift condemnation from both sides of the aisle.
Since the texts were made public by Politico, Douglass says he has apologized for having Vermont caught up in the controversy that he says exposed his family to hateful messages.
In the Friday statement , he said he would resign on Monday. But as of Tuesday afternoon, he’s still technically employed by the state.
