There’s nothing scary about cold weather for outdoor skating rink enthusiasts.
St. Catharines has set a Halloween application deadline for volunteer groups who want to run outdoor community ice rinks this winter.
The city allows groups to use its parks to build, operate and maintain rinks .
St. Catharines provides signage and training sessions for volunteers on how to build a rink and complete required documents. The city also offers grants of up to $1,000 to help cover costs of insurance and other items for as many as six rink locations.
Groups can apply to use any park in the city so long as it has a flat surface, access for emergency vehicles and adequate parking. Rink operators must provide free access to all community members.
Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 31. Informa
