MINOT, ND (KXNET) — It's something we all breathe out every time we talk, but city leaders in Minot say they need carbon dioxide when it counts, especially to provide safe drinking water for people. On Monday, the Minot City Council approved a budget amendment for $450,000 to cover Minot's share of procurement and construction costs in this project.
Minot city leaders say carbon dioxide is essential to keep the pH levels in drinking water balanced. The City of Minot normally gets its carbon dioxide from the Dakota Gasification Company in Beulah, but the plant shuts down for maintenance every fall for roughly six weeks.
This leaves the door open for city leaders in Minot to find new reserve storage options across the state.
