MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Madera County is now a "Second Amendment Sanctuary" county following the board of supervisors' vote on Tuesday.
The resolution passed with a four-zero vote. District 5 Supervisor Robert Macaulay abstained from voting.
The resolution, proposed by Madera County Supervisor for District 1, Jordan Wamhoff, proposed it to "reaffirm the amendment." When he first announced it, he said that the resolution would declare the county a "Second Amendment Sanctuary."
In the meeting, Wamhoff said that the resolution reaffirms what he and others already believe and practice in the county.
"That the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms is fundamental for freedom and safety," Wamhoff said.
