COLUMBIA, S.C. — Richland County deputies say they've ruled as justified a man who killed another man who'd kicked down the door to his apartment.

The incident happened in the 8000 block of Bayfield Road around 10:30 p.m. Monday, according to investigators. Deputies said when they got to the house the found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies said they detained the shooter and a witness at the scene. They both told investigators that the man who died had kicked in the door of the apartment and had forced his way inside. They said the shooter then got a gun and shot the man.
