CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Juniors at Robert C. Byrd High School got a "reality check" Tuesday morning thanks to a county-hosted financial literacy simulation.
Sponsored by Truist Bank, the Harrison County Board of Education has been hosting these reality checks to give high school students an accurate representation of what “adulting” looks like.
Students were given a job, education level, family and relationship status and had to decide how they wanted to spend their money at different stations such as hobbies, education, healthcare and transportation.
Geraldine Beckett, the career tech ed. liaison for Harrison County Schools, spoke with 12 News about why it is important that students understand finances.
