NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. —

It may be getting a bit chilly in South Carolina but one police department is reminding residents that wearing masks in public in the state is illegal.

North Charleston Police Department issued a public service announcement after they say there has been an increase in people wearing ski masks and "Pooh Sheisty" style masks.

The department reminds the public of State Statute 16-7-110 subsection (A) of the South Carolina Code, which says no person over 16 should wear a mask which conceals their identity.
