CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. — Abuse charges could be filed against a Michigan homeowner after deputies searched her home and found "hazardous" conditions—including dozens of animals in poor health and a dead dog in the yard.

The investigation began Tuesday when Calhoun County deputies responded to a home on 8½ Mile Road on reports of possible animal neglect.

Deputies searched the home with permission and found "unsanitary and hazardous" living conditions. Animal waste and a strong urine odor were noted, and a dead dog was discovered in the backyard.
