A 32-year-old St. Catharines man has died after a six-vehicle collision on Highway 406 in Thorold.

The highway has been closed in both directions between Beaverdams and St. Davids roads.

In a post on X, Burlington Ontario Provincial Police media officer Const. Rob Tihor said the collision occurred at about 6:45 a.m. when a southbound vehicle travelled into the northbound lanes for an unknown reason.

The driver of that vehicle was the person who died, Tihor said.

He said other people involved in the collision reported minor injuries.

The highway is expected to remain closed until at least 5 p.m.
