Police are asking people to stay away from the area around Niagara Square in Niagara Falls while they investigate a stabbing that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

In a post on social media, Niagara Regional Police said they have closed Niagara Square Drive.

Police said they received a report of an incident in the area of Montrose Road and McLeod Road. The call came in shortly before 1 p.m., police said.

Police said the stabbing occurred near the intersection of McLeod and Niagara Square roads and not at Niagara Square itself.
