Montana Lewis didn’t mean to kill his sister’s boyfriend and shouldn’t be found guilty of first-degree murder, his lawyer said Tuesday.

Sam Graham, 19, died after he was fatally stabbed in the driveway of Lewis’s home on Muriel Drive on Nov. 12, 2020. An argument between Lewis and his sister, Semiah, earlier that day at the east-end home led to the fatal stabbing in the late afternoon. Lewis “was suspicious” Graham was abusing his sister.

The confrontation between the two men outside the residence happened “very fast” with Lewis stabbing Graham in the abdomen by reflex, defense counsel David Bayliss told Superior Court Justice Alexander Kurke.
