President Donald Trump’s plan to import more beef from Argentina has riled some of his most stalwart supporters.

While speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One last Sunday, Trump said that the U.S. could boost its purchases of Argentinian beef as a way to reduce record-high price averages. Ground beef soared to $6.25 per pound and USDA Choice sirloin steak to $13.55 in July and remain up across the country.

The president’s suggestion triggered a bipartisan backlash that included some prominent MAGA voices.
