A mother has spoken out about the terrifying ordeal when her young autistic son went missing from a childcare centre only two days before his tragic and unrelated death.

Jazmin Spence, 35, was terrified to find her five-year-old son Theodore missing when she arrived to pick him up from Busy Bees Early Learning Centre on Harries Rd in Coorparoo, Brisbane about 5.55pm on February 17, 2023.

The five-year-old left through an emergency exit without being seen, the Queensland Department of Education said.

The centre is located above a Woolworths shopping complex with emergency exits leading to street level.

Spence told 7NEWS.com.au when she arrived to pick up Theo, she signed him out and walked to the playground, but “instantly just knew he wasn’t there.”
