HONOLULU (Island News) -- A weather system just north of the islands is expected to move closer, bringing more trade wind showers, especially at night and in the early morning over the next few days.
On the Big Island, there's a chance for a thunderstorm or two in the afternoons as cooler air higher up mixes with local weather patterns. The ongoing showers are also being pushed in by steady trade winds, which are supported by a strong high-pressure system to the north of the islands. This system is expected to shift east and make the trade winds even stronger starting Thursday.
By Thursday, winds will likely increase to 20 to 30 miles per hour, possibly becoming quite gusty in some spots. Summit areas on the Big Island may also see very strong winds, possibly reaching advisory levels. At
