(NewsNation) — As the government shutdown continues, relief is on the way for America’s farmers. The Department of Agriculture is set to reopen thousands of field offices Thursday to help distribute billions of dollars in critical aid.
Farmers have emphasized the timing is crucial. Many are prepared to order seed and fertilizer for next year while settling up with banks for this year's operating loans as they grapple with soaring costs.
Aaron Lehman, president of the Iowa Farmers Union, said he's happy to see the funds released despite the shutdown because farmers were counting on it.
