HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — The mayor of Hartford announced Thursday a new commitment to transform local classrooms into centers of excellence.

The plan includes implementing new examinations of district functions, determining the appropriate number of schools to avoid wasting money on empty buildings and ensuring collaboration with the state for proper financial allocations.

"It's going to be a plan that brings together all of these folks who are behind me, the folks who work inside our schools, our state leaders, our city leaders, and brings together everybody across the entire city of Hartford who believes that the status quo isn't working for us any longer," Mayor Arunan Arulampalam said Thursday.
