A man who was found driving with £17m worth of ketamine on the East Lancs was working for drug dealers to pay off his debt, a court heard.

Paul Farrelly was driving down the dual carriageway on September 16 when he was stopped by police officers at around 4.30pm. Farrelly reportedly began acting nervously as officers approached his van before they began searching it and found 22 sacks of ketamine.

A further inspection of a fake stack of kitchen countertops revealed more stashes of the class B drugs which totalled to a "truly staggering" 875kg.

Farrelly, of Redbank Close, Fazakerley, was arrested following the stop and search check before being charged with possession of Class B controlled drugs with intent to supply.
