An alleged domestic violence offender had been on the run from police for up to a month before he fled from officers and attempted to hide in a stormwater drain, it has been revealed.

On October 22, officers attached to Central West Police District attended several homes in Orange as part of inquiries to locate a man wanted on a warrant relating to "serious" alleged DV offences.

Detective Superintendent Luke Rankin said the offences that were alleged to have been committed by the 21-year-old took place in Moree and included choking and assault occasioning actual bodily harm

"Very serious matters," he said.

"The young man is from the Moree area, and that is where we got our information that he might be here in Orange, from our colleagues in Moree."
