PORTLAND, Ore. — A federal judge will hold a key hearing Friday on whether to keep a temporary order in place blocking the federal deployment of any National Guard troops to Oregon.

U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut has scheduled the hearing for 10 a.m. by phone. The hearing will focus on the Trump administration’s request to dissolve the second of two temporary restraining orders she issued in early October.

The administration has been attempting to deploy troops for the past few weeks, arguing that they're needed to help maintain order in response to protests outside the ICE building in Portland. Local political leaders have strongly disputed Trump's characterizations of the protests and the city, and Oregon challenged the deployment in court.
