NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (KCAU) — One of the most recognized business names, perhaps ever, in North Sioux City put the Siouxland community on the map long before today’s business development.
That business? A small computer company called Gateway.
At the time, no one could have predicted the local start-up, dreamed up by a pair of college dropouts, would still be making an impact 40 years later.
“There were a lot of skeptics, no doubt about it,” said Jim Wharton, Former President of Gateway Foundation. “I don't think anyone in their wildest expectation thought that it would, except maybe for Ted Waitt would have guessed what it grew into. It was a Fortune 300 company at one time, right here in Sioux City. Unbelievable.”
