KEYSTONE, S.D. (KELO) -- National fire resources are in the Black Hills this week to work on prescribed burns.

Early Thursday morning, fire crews were working on the land right next to Mount Rushmore.

This burn is the first in several years to take place inside the Mount Rushmore area lines.

"This is definitely a priority project to get done and we have a variety of approximately 80 people working on this burn. A variety of federal units and state units. Firefighters from probably 10 different states covering for us," Fire Information Nancy Phillipe said.

The firefighters are working this prescribed fire to help remove the fallen hazards around the memorial land.
