Ireland has a new World Champion after Lara Gillespie won gold in the elimination race at the UCI Track World Championship in Chile last night.
The 24-year-old from Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, rode a perfect race to add the World crown after winning the European title in the same event in February this year. Gillespie is Ireland's first Track World Champion since Martyn Irvine won a rainbow jersey in 2013.
