Nine members of An Garda Síochána have been awarded Scott medals today, including two of them posthumously.

Among recipients were Garda Nigel Murphy and Garda Conor Treacy, who received Silver Scott medals for their bravery in rescuing a woman from a house fire.

In September 2023, they responded to the call of a firearm being discharged at a house in Dublin West. On the way to the scene, they were advised that the house was on fire and a woman was trapped inside.

"The house was covered in smoke,” Garda Murphy told the Irish Independent .
