Nearly 60-years ago a Brainerd man left to join the war effort. It was 1942 and Leo Mustonen, 22, never made it into WWII. But he didn’t make it home, either. Six decades after his training plane crashed into a Sierra Nevada mountain, the body of an airman with a parachute has been found in a receding glacier. It may be Leo.

30 years ago (1995)

Religious items were desecrated as St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Brainerd’s oldest, was vandalized over the weekend. A parishioner was opening the church before Sunday’s services and found a Bible smoldering on the lectern, with scorch marks on the cross nearby. Police are investigating.
