Hancock County firefighters and the Mississippi Forestry Commission continued working Friday morning to control a large woods fire near the intersection of Highway 603 and Rocky Hill Dedeaux Road, according to WLOX.
As of 9:30 a.m., the blaze was estimated at roughly 90% contained. Bulldozers remained on scene cutting lines, and deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office were in the area monitoring traffic, WLOX reported.
While there are structures nearby, officials said none were in danger.
Forestry officials cautioned that smoke may be visible for several days or until meaningful rain arrives. A reconnaissance plane was expected to fly the area Friday afternoon to assess conditions from the air, per WLOX.
