HANCOCK COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) - Friday morning, Hancock County firefighters and Mississippi Forestry continue to battle a large woods fire.
According to officials, the fire has covered 280 acres in an area near the intersection of Highway 603 and Rocky Hill Dedeaux Road.
The blaze in considered roughly 90% contained as of 9:30 a.m. Friday. Bulldozers remain working on the scene.
While some structures can be found in the area, none are considered to be in danger at this time. Officials with Mississippi Forestry say smoke will be visible in the area for several days or until significant rain comes.
Officials say they will be putting a plane in the air this afternoon to asses the situation from above.
