The Saskatchewan government is moving forward with legislation this fall to implement mandatory addiction treatment for specific individuals. Lori Carr, the province's Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, described the program as compassionate intervention.
The program is designed for individuals who may be a harm to themselves or a harm to others and just don't have the capacity to make the decision to seek treatment on their own.
Carr, who is also the Minister of Rural and Remote Health and the MLA for Estevan-Big Muddy, said the incoming legislation will finalize the details, but confirmed an intake process will be established.
