Many women from the Jaunsari community have questioned the logic behind a recent decision made by the Gram Sabhas of Kandar and Idroli villages in the tribal dominated area of Jaunsar-Bawar in Dehradun district. The decision restricts women from wearing more than three items of gold jewellery- a Mangalsutra, a nose ring and earrings during weddings and other social functions, with a fine of Rs 50,000 for non-compliance.
