HONOLULU (Island News) -- Strong trade winds are blowing across the state, especially over Maui and the Big Island.
These winds are strong enough to meet Wind Advisory levels and are expected to last through tonight. Because the air is also very dry in some leeward areas, the combination of strong winds and low humidity is creating a risk for wildfires.
A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for these dry areas during the afternoon hours through Saturday, and a Wind Advisory is also in place through tonight.
A small upper-level low pressure system will slowly move west over the next few days, passing directly over the Big Island on Friday night. As it moves, it will pull more moisture from the tropics over the eastern islands, which should end fire weather concerns by Saturday. With this
