ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - Volunteers spent Friday, Oct. 24, afternoon planting tulip bulbs in preparation for Orange City’s annual Tulip Festival in May.
John Buntsma, a planter for the city, says they are planting over 20,000 bulbs this year in the newly redesigned Windmill Park. This is an increase from the 15,000 bulbs planted in previous years. The new park design allows for about 25% more tulips, according to Buntsma.
“One of the neat things about tulips is that you plant them in the fall, you’ve got these little brown bulbs and all that, but in the spring, you get the color that’s coming up,” said Buntsma. “A lot of these are tulips that will have tall stems, 12 to 14 inches tall stems, and it’ll be a great look.”
