ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - Three months ago, a derecho packing winds of up to 99 miles per hour roared through northwest Iowa, doing historic damage.
In Orange City, Iowa, one wind gust hit 92 miles per hour. That toppled countless trees, historic windmills, and even a children’s playground in Orange City.
Crews begin cleaning up damaged parks and buildings found across Sioux County, IA
Since the storm, Orange City has cleaned up, hauled away downed trees and tree limbs, and removed most of the tree stumps left behind.
Orange City’s city administrator ballpark estimates the damage to city property at about $100,000, not including any residential impact.
The city is also in the process of removing ash trees, a process that started before the derecho.
