NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) - New Haven has received approval from the state Department of Transportation to install 15 automated traffic enforcement safety devices, commonly known as red light and speed cameras.
The city first pitched the proposal about a year and a half ago. The cameras are designed to cut down on speeding and drivers running red lights in high-traffic areas.
New Haven submitted 19 locations to the DOT, including the intersection of Foxon and Quinnipiac. The state approved 15 of them.
The city’s plan includes 11 red light cameras at locations from downtown to Ella T. Grasso Boulevard, Quinnipiac Avenue and the Annex.
Four speed cameras will be installed on Fountain Street, Sherman Avenue, Townsend Avenue and Route 80 Foxon Boulevard.
