GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — As of Friday morning, over $60,000 has been raised for Homeward Bound of the Grand Valley (HBGV) following its announcement on Oct. 10 that it would be closing its North Avenue Adult Emergency Shelter on the weekends.

The shelter's announcement was made due to a lack of funding, as it had experienced a significant loss in state and federal grants and foundation grants this year. According to Homeward Bound, the three-day weekend closure would be temporary with intentions to return to seven-day operations in the winter if the necessary funds were reached by Nov. 7.
