GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCBD) — The Georgetown community is mourning the loss of a beloved baseball coach and mentor, Mike Johnson, who passed away Thursday at the age of 78.
For nearly five decades, Johnson dedicated his life to teaching, coaching, and uplifting students at Winyah, Howard, and Georgetown High Schools leaving a lasting mark both on and off the field.
“He left a legacy that will never be matched,” said former player Bradford Stafford, a Georgetown High School alum. “He was a community person. It wasn’t even about color with him. He was just a fair person always willing and listening.”
Known for his humor and leadership, Johnson was described as a “jokester” and a “gentle giant” by those who knew him best.
