GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - This afternoon, the City of Greenville held a ceremony to rename one of its parks.

People from the community came together to celebrate Inez N. Fridley River’s Edge Park, formerly named River’s Edge Park.

City council members approved the name change last November after getting a request from the Tar River University Neighborhood Association.

The park is now named after Inez Fridley, who served on the Greenville City Council from 1985 to 2001. She was a dedicated liaison to the Recreation and Parks Commission during her time on the council.

Greenville Recreation and Parks Director Don Octigan said Fridley helped shape the city’s greenway system.
