AROUND THE OZARKS (KY3) -Lightning deaths are most common in the summer, between June and August, but it can happen any time of year.

So far, 20 lightning deaths have been reported nationwide in 2025. In Missouri, there has only been one, and none have been reported in Arkansas.

Lightning happens very quickly, which is why it’s important to seek shelter as soon as you hear thunder.

Jason Radney, hunter and owner of Cherokee Firearms, recounts a chilling experience.

“I actually had the hair on my arm start to stand up pretty badly, and about 100 yards away from me, a tree was struck by lightning,” said Radney. “It was like five or six seconds after I felt the hair on my arms stand up when the tree got struck.”
