CLOVIS, N.M. (KAMR/KCIT) — The New Mexico Racing Commission has taken the first step toward moving SunRay Park's racing license from Farmington to Clovis. This decision could bring a major economic development project to eastern New Mexico.
Executive Director Ismael Trejo said the commission voted on Thursday to provisionally approve the relocation request during its regular meeting this week. The proposal includes plans for a new racetrack and casino complex on a 200-acre site along U.S Highway 60.
"The location obviously looks very strategic with our other casinos and racetracks that border the Texas line doing very well. There would be expectations that this facility would do fairly well with the West Texas markets," Trejo said.
